importing EX1 files

Hi there

I've been editing material shot on a Sony EX1 on a 30 day trial version of Avid Media Composer 4.05 on an iMac running OS 10.5.8. When I first created the project Avid seemed to scan all the connected disks and automatically created new bins representing the folders on my hard disk for each card. I did some pickup shots yesterday and I can't get Avid to import anything from them, let alone create new bins automatically the way it did for the other cards.

Going into Finder and dragging the MP4 files into a bin gives me the error message "The file format of ... is not supported for import". In fact it's giving me this message even if I try to import files already in the project. The format is the same: 1080/25p. I can look at the clips in XDCam EX Clip Browser and can confirm that the format is the same for the new shots as the older ones.

Avid did make one new bin automatically: when I connected the card reader last night to transfer the footage off the cards it made an Untitled bin and loaded all the clips on the card into the new bin. But I can't view or edit any of the files because Avid is looking for them on the card reader and I can't see an option for getting it to look for the files on either of the hard disks I have copied them to. I tried typing a new file directory path into the Drive column of the Untitled bin in Text view but Avid wasn't having any of it.

I tried creating a new project and Avid did the automatic scanning thing, but it made two new bins "Files" and "MacintoshHD" with a random selection of clips. Certainly not all the clips that were stored on these hard disks and not the Card 1, Card 2, Card 3 etc bins that it made when I first started.

Any help greatly appreciated.
